Every year, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine hosts an annual conference where educators from across the country assemble to discuss the future of medical education, and the institutions charged with its advancement.
Dr. Stephen Shannon, DO, was the President of AACOM from 2006 to 2019. We were asked to work with him on writing his farewell speech, to be delivered at his last annual conference.
Each annual conference followed a theme for its programming, and we wanted to tie in thematic touchpoints into the message while also outlining Dr. Shannon’s myriad accomplishments during his tenure. We were also very familiar with Dr. Shannon’s conversational style, and wanted the speech to evoke a delivery that would be most suitable for him. Several drafts over a few months led to the final version shown below, delivered by Dr. Shannon at the 2019 annual conference.
